Wattwatchers Digital Energy recently was awarded a government grant, through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), to develop and roll-out a new app platform Australia-wide. The project, My Energy Marketplace (MEM), includes installing subsidised smart energy solutions at 5,000+ homes, small businesses and schools.
The MEM project also features special development of new user terms and conditions (T&Cs), which aim to be easy-to-understand, customer-friendly and highly aligned with consumer data rights protections.
Now it’s time to test our app design and the prototype functionality.
We want to make sure that what we create meets the needs of everyday people—not just the energy and tech geeks—and that’s where we need your help.
Who are we seeking to engage?
Participants will:
- have primary or shared responsibility for paying their household’s electricity bill;
- be a resident of Australia;
- be 25 years of age, or older;
- use a smartphone;
- have access to a computer and broadband internet connection.
What do you need to do?

What happens once you’ve signed up?
If you are selected as one of the 12–15 applicants who best meet our participation criteria, we’ll invite you to a 45-minute online interview and activity session. Your responses to the materials we present to you, and then discuss with you, will help ensure that the services we provide meet your needs, and the needs of people like you.
Is there a reward for participating?
Yes. Every participant who attends an online research interview will receive a gift card to the value of AUD$80 and also will be entered into a draw (with a maximum of 15 contestants) to win a free-of-charge MEM home energy package, which includes a smart energy management device, installation by an electrician, and three years of cellular communications, service of data and the app (with a retail value of nearly $1000).
How do we protect your privacy?
Personally-identifying information that we collect for the purposes of conducting the MEM App Test will not be shared with third parties, nor used by Wattwatchers, other than for the specific purposes of carrying out the MEM App Test, communicating with you in regard to the Test process, and providing you with the gift card (and installation of a smart energy device at your home if you win the draw).
