We’re proud to introduce John Sukkar, our new Chief Product & Technology Officer at Wattwatchers. John brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and hands-on leadership across data, product, and digital transformation.
With more than 20 years’ experience, John has delivered impact across a range of industries and sectors. From building data ecosystems for national disaster resilience at the Minderoo Foundation, to driving digital innovation at CSIRO, to helping customers adopt emerging technologies at Microsoft, his career has been about solving complex challenges with purpose-built, scalable solutions.
From Data to Impact: Why John Joined Wattwatchers
For John, joining Wattwatchers is an opportunity to shape technology that directly empowers people, households, businesses, and entire communities, to electrify, cut emissions, and accelerate their journey toward net zero.
“What excites me is the intersection of product, data and real-world outcomes. We’re not just building tools. We’re helping people make smarter energy decisions at scale. That’s what excites me most about this role.”
As CPTO, John is leading Wattwatchers’ product strategy and tech delivery, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and customer-centric innovation. His approach is all about designing solutions that work in the real world that are easy to adopt, easy to scale, and powerful in their impact.
Driving the Next Wave of Digital Energy
Wattwatchers is at the forefront of a changing energy landscape. With increasing pressure on the grid, growing adoption of renewables, and the electrification of homes and businesses, the need for real-time energy intelligence has never been greater.
John sees huge potential for Wattwatchers to expand its role, not just as a metering solution, but as an essential platform for climate action, operational efficiency, and smart energy decision-making.
“Whether we’re helping a household reduce their energy bill or enabling a business to meet its sustainability targets, data is the gateway. And Wattwatchers is uniquely positioned to deliver the insights that matter, when and where they’re needed most.”
What’s Next? John’s Goals at Wattwatchers
John is already working closely with the product, tech, and leadership teams to align the roadmap with evolving market needs, including supporting metering-as-a-service models, enhancing platform integrations, and improving user experience across the board.
He’s particularly focused on delivering tools that help users better understand their energy data in real time, reduce complexity for enterprise clients, and ensure a smoother onboarding experience for both new and legacy customers.
“Looking ahead, my focus will be on scaling what works, improving how we communicate our impact, and building trust with our existing and future customers, including better messaging for legacy customers navigating technical challenges.”
This will include developing more proactive communications around common IoT issues like cellular network changes, as well as building content that positions Wattwatchers as a leading voice on the bigger challenges facing the digital energy space.
We’re thrilled to have John on board and can’t wait to see where his leadership takes us.
