Home energy management in a network
The Wattwatchers system enables the creation of residential ‘Energy Saving Networks’, or ESN’s, that are independent of utilities, highly flexible in terms of the activities and services they support, and brandable.
A (YOUR BRAND) Energy Saving Network based on Wattwatchers Auditor® devices covers any number of homes – not limited by geographic location, type of utility meter or current energy retailer. As long as the home has broadband and a wireless router, the installation of just one Auditor® device connects to the network and displays household energy use in real-time on screens used every day – PC’s, mobile phones, tablets.

Opt-in services to reduce consumers’ bills
By creating an ESN your business or group can offer a variety of ‘opt in’ support and services to reduce energy bills. This includes providing consumer-meaningful information and comparisons, specific advice such as appliance performance, control over time-of-use, and benefiting from group buying and other demand-side services. Individual participants can choose if and how they want to share their data, and what level of remote observation and control they may grant a third-party energy service provider to help them. It’s a long way from quarterly bills, in-home energy displays that run out of batteries, complicated proprietary systems, or utility-owned ‘smart meter’ data.
Development partnerships
A branded ESN can be based on the staff of corporations, members of a service organisation or club, a local community or estate development, homes around a wind farm, or bundled with other home services from retailers, ISP’s or renewable energy companies.

Meters
Enabling an ESN starts with the Wattwatchers Auditor® – a real-time energy meter installed by an electrician into the meter box. It measures and sends data via low-power WiFi to an existing household router (the Home Area Network) and on to cloud-server back ends. The Wattwatchers Auditor® residential range has the same robustness, Class 1 accuracy and enterprise-class quality as the Commercial range, so demand side services can be extended to the Residential sector. Typical household circuit configurations are listed in the chart below.

Wattwatchers partners only with approved enterprise-quality energy management platforms, Dashboards and Apps that can deliver secure, real-time energy displays.
Our Green Home is a cloud-based software-as-service application for households with Wattwatchers Auditor® devices. It is a subscription model, currently displaying information on PC’s and mobile phones. Appliance monitoring and control

The Wattwatchers Gridplug® plugs into a standard 3-pin power socket to measure and/or and remotely control connected appliances. While major circuits (air-conditioning, hot water, pool pumps, solar PV) can be managed by the Auditor® range, Gridplug® is ideal for moving around the house to understand what minor appliances cost to run, or to remotely switch off computers, entertainment centres or other appliances from a smartphone.
Residential Installation and Configuration
All hard-wired or clip-on electrical devices are governed by codes and regulations, and must be installed by a qualified contractor or electrician.
Auditor® devices have been designed for fast installation and easy set-up.
They come pre-packaged with 1, 3 or 6 compact-size 75amp Class1 split-core Current Transformers, suitable for clipping over individual circuits or phases in consumption or generation lines.
WiFi connectivity
Auditor® devices have an optimised internal WiFi antenna.
Metal meter boxes and building shell construction can interfere, and if WiFi signal strength is weak, Wattwatchers external weatherproof antennas are used, or a Wattwatchers-approved plug-in WiFi extender inside the house.
Product development roadmap
The product roadmap for Residential includes plug-load management, WiFi thermostat controls, inputs to allow multi-utility coverage of electricity, water and gas, and more ‘automated’ demand management initiatives.
