Hello. The team at Wattwatchers have handed over this month's newsletter so I can introduce myself to you as the new Managing Director. That's me in the picture (yes, OK, I know, I am a bit of a techie type - my new colleagues are calling me 'The Connected Home Guy').
I discovered Wattwatchers nearly two years ago when I signed up for my local council's Energy Smart Savers program, in Ku-ring-gai in the northern suburbs of Sydney. Getting a new job was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted my family to save energy in our home, and the council had a great deal to get a Wattwatchers monitoring device installed with a home energy management app. Little did I know then that I'd end up running the company.
That said, I do have form in the world of smart energy management. My last big job, from 2005 through to 2014, was global chief information officer (CIO) for the world's largest manufacturer of smart meters, Landis + Gyr, which was sold to Japanese technology conglomerate Toshiba in 2011 for $US2.3 billion. If you are interested you can read more of my Bio HERE, or take a look at my recent interview with Sophie Vorrath from Renew Economy HERE.
Suffice it to say that for quite a while I didn't think I'd ever be back in the energy sector again. But what did I know? Because here I am. We're in the business of disrupting the traditional energy sector, and I'm very excited about that. My personal energy revolution passions run to home automation, the Internet of Things, and lots of data - especially how real-time data from Wattwatchers can transform the way energy works in our homes, our communities, our enterprises and our lives.
